Better Virtual Meetings

Here’s a tip to start having more productive meetings. A tip to get everyone present. A tip to making your virtual meetings better. It all begins with how you start your meetings. One way to do this is to think of the start as being similar to a race.

In the Olympics, the runners line up. A pause occurs… then the excitement begins. Taking a similar pause can help you have better meetings.

As people are showing up for your meeting, before you start... ask them to take a moment. A moment to pause.. A moment to commit to what they can do to ensure their ready. A moment to identify what they will not do to ensure they are fully present.

Next take an action. Asking everyone to type into chat… the answer to a simple question.

What can you do to eliminate all distraction for this meeting?

You might find yourself…

  • … closing the door to your home office

  • … closing your browser

  • … exiting out of outlook

  • … turning your phone over

  • … not checking your email

  • … not checking text on your phone

And so may others. By typing into chat what you plan to do and not do, you and your team are making a commitment to each other. A commitment to being focused and fully present.

And when your done, now everyone is ready. Ready for a great meeting.

Now, go have fun. Gain commitment. Avoid distraction. Ensure your next meeting starts off great.
